The Studebaker Avanti is a very divisive car. Due to that peculiar front end, there are people that hate it, or if you’re like me, you find it just peculiar enough to be alluring.
The Avanti was launched in 1962 as an attempt to revitalize Studebaker’s dwindling sales. The idea was that something new and exciting would regain the interest of the public.
they really wanted to shake things up a bit so they decided to make some drastic changes. Instead of pressing the body out of metal, which, due to its curves would have been expensive and complicated, they molded it from fiberglass.
They didn’t stop with the impressive design on the exterior. The interior also had some incredible design. The design cues taken from airplanes are extremely strong, especially in the instrument cluster and the switches mounted above the windshield.
The rear seats, elevated so that you can see more clearly over the people in the front, are surprisingly comfortable.
