The Mercedes Benz Mclaren SLR is a peculiar animal. It is easily one of the most luxious vehicles I’ve been around, but, you know, its also an insanely powered beast. It is packing a 5.4 Liter v8 that pushes out 617 horse power!
While that huge nose can look a bit silly at some angles, the over all style of this car is very eye catching. Based off of the 1955 Mercedes SL, you’ll recognize those giant side vents and side exiting exhaust. The swing-wing doors are feather light and surprisingly easy to maneuver.
While I was researching this car, the thing that struck me the most was the fact that the people who are assembling these aren’t using power tools. They’re using hand wrenches, torque wrenches, and the like. It was very impressive. That necessity for a human hand to feel the quality of the assembly carries through all the way to the final inspection where the entire car is looked over for any minuscule blemishes in the paint.
As usual, thank you to Premier Sports Cars for letting me look at these vehicles. If you see something in their inventory you’d like a video of, just let me know!
